Vintage French Louis XV Style Gilt Metal Coffee Table with Onyx Top

A vintage French coffee table in the Louis XV style, with a cast gilt metal base and a shaped onyx top, found at a brocante here in rural France.

The base has four cabriole legs and a pierced apron cast with shells, scrolls and acanthus leaves. The top is a thick slab of honey-coloured onyx with caramel veining and a moulded edge, and it lifts off the base for moving. It works as a coffee table in a sitting room, or as a low side table at the end of a bed.

Condition

Good vintage condition. The gilt finish has mellowed with age and shows some darker patches. The onyx has natural veining and fissures, and there are surface marks to the top, including one textured patch. Please look at the photos closely, as they form part of the description.
